Erik Gibson has always been inspired by tribal art, and ancient
drawings and/or symbols. However he used to just draw abstract images.
The last piece Erik had drawn in the abstract was a piece he gave to his
mother. It was of the Disney's Fab 5's Hats (Mickey, Minnie, Donald,
Goofy, Pluto). "I gave this to her on her birthday in 1998, and she
passed away 2 days later." Erik said. This was the last thing he
had drawn for a 3 years.
Eventually, Erik went to Kauai with his wife, which was his Mother's
favorite island. Erik was inspired to draw again, this time he
decided to focus on the ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs. Erik believes it
was the energy of the Island that had stoked the flame of creativity
again.
In total Erik has been drawing for 16 years with 3 1/2 devoted to
Hawaiian Petroglyphs. He doesn't show yet and only has his web
page so far.
Erik has the Aloha Spirit and would like to form contacts with
other artists, maybe partner up for different festivals. Erik would love
to talk with other Artists who share the same love for Hawaii.
