MANATEE Photos
Manatees.... My husband has seen them a number of times, but I have only seen them once really. Above are some of the photos.
When we lived in St. Mary's we lived on the Crocked River and the neighbor next door had a hose that would drip fresh water from his dock. I ALWAYS missed the Manatees in our backyard, but my husband would see them. In 2000, we came back to St. Mary's for a visit from Hawaii. I dropped my husband off to fish, I went to order my 800si Minolta camera. I had just bought my first 400si & 500si a few months before and I was already seeing a need for 3rd camera. After ordering my camera I was going to go downtown St. Mary's to take some photos.
When I picked up my husband I learned that I missed a great Manatee moment. My husband watched an alligator kill a Manatee pup. I could pass on that moment. He said the surviving Manatees stayed in the area, but looked to be mourning. He said they were so close and stunned that he could touch them if he was foolish enough to bother them. Manatees are peace mammals and they are protected by law. He was also letting me know this to say he was so close even he could get some close up photos. He has also seen them up in the Charleston Harbor.
If you love Manatees, do you know you can help save the Manatee? Here's the website. I do not have any connection to this website. I just found it while searching the web for a little info on them.
If you are working on a school protect on Manatees and want to share any facts, please let me know. Also send me an e-mail if you are going to use these images.
